American Heritage Girls is a Scouting program for girls that is faith-based. It was begun over a dozen years ago in the Cincinnati area by some mothers who wanted a program for their daughters that was wholesome, family-friendly, and Christ-centered. The organization has grown to many other states and Troop 98 was organized here at First Christian Church in the fall of 2005. We meet on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM at the church. For more information, contact the church office at 706-278-7244. You can also find out more about American Heritage Girls in general by looking at their official website, www.ahgonline.org.

The program is designed with five different levels for girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Life skills are taught through a merit badge program. Leadership opportunities are given to the girls at all levels. Teamwork and confidence is built through various outdoor experiences. Character development is enhanced through community service projects and citizenship programs. Social development is learned through organized special events. And, of special concern to us in the church, spiritual development is taught through a religious award program. It can be summed up in the AHG oath, which says, I promise to love God, cherish my family, honor my country, and serve in my community.
